Soft + Slow = Strength (Proverbs 25:15)

Listen Here:

Proverbs 25:15

With patience a ruler may be persuaded,
and a soft tongue will break a bone.

This verse offends our sense of logic, doesn’t it?

We imagine power bending to power, argument conquering argument. Yet here comes Solomon saying that patience can sway kings, and softness can shatter bone. It’s as if the Lord delights in turning our logic on its head.

We would never connect persuasion with patience. Persuasion, we think, is forceful speech and quick success. But patience — slow, silent, unhurried — seems far too gentle for royal hearts.

And who would ever call something soft strong enough to break a bone? Yet this is the strange wisdom of God: soft plus slow equals strong.

It is a portrait of how the Almighty works. The One who could split seas with a word often chooses to whisper instead. The God who could crush rebellion in a moment chooses long-suffering love. His ways are not our ways; His strength moves through weakness, His power hides in gentleness.

The world believes impatience gets things done. God believes patience changes hearts.

And in the end, His patience always wins. The cross itself is the greatest proof — the softest answer ever given to the hardest hearts. There, mercy broke sin’s bone clean through.

So take heart if you are tempted to trade gentleness for grit, or patience for pressure.

The gentle word, the quiet endurance, the long obedience — these are not signs of weakness but the tools of the Almighty.

A soft tongue still breaks bones. Patience still moves thrones. And through such humble means, God still displays His glory.

Let’s pray.
