The Treasure Worth Everything (Proverbs 23:23)
Listen Here:
Proverbs 23:23
Buy truth, and do not sell it;
buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding.
There’s one line I always think of with this verse, and candidly I can’t remember if it’s original to me or not. Either way, the line and lesson here is this:
Get wisdom with all your getting…then keep it with all your keeping.
Why? Because Wisdom is Christ. And like Paul says in Philippians 3:
“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.”
Paul knew and practiced what we may know but don’t practice. Christ is worth it all. He is the treasure in the field worth selling it all for. He is the pearl of great price.
So buy the truth—set your life to obtain Christ with all your getting—and keep Him with all your keeping.
And I feel like this is about to become one of those infomercials: “But wait! There’s more!”
Because hear this: you don’t buy Him; He bought you with His blood.
Isaiah says, ‘Come, buy without money’ (Isaiah 55:1). The ‘price’ is laying down the lesser treasures that were never keeping you anyway. And when you keep Him, you find He is the One keeping you (Jude 24; John 10:28).
So reflect:
Do you believe this? That Christ is worth your deepest love? Your all?
What’s competing for your deepest love—romance, career, image, control?
Where is Jesus inviting you to reorder your loves today?
Let’s pray:
“Lord Jesus, Wisdom of God, we renounce the lesser treasures that cannot hold us. Teach our hearts to prize You above all things. Help us get You with all our getting, keep You with all our keeping—and rest in the greater truth that You are keeping us. Amen.”
