Why Christians Can Face Death with Joy (Proverbs 14:32)
Listen Here:
Proverbs 14:32
The wicked is overthrown through his evildoing,
but the righteous finds refuge in his death.
What a hope we have here in Christ. I harp often on the hope we have in Him in this life, because He said He came to bring life in abundance, but there’s not just hope in life with Him, there’s hope in death.
“The righteous finds refuge in his death…”
O that makes me so happy!
I mean that statement feels so contradictory right? How can you find something when you lose your life?
But the Christian finds His life in losing it, doesn’t he?
Jesus said, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”
The wicked are finally crushed by the weight of their own sin. But the righteous—the ones hidden in Christ—are carried into safety. Think embassy doors: you step off hostile soil and immediately you’re under the King’s protection. Or think of the grave as a gate change, not a cancellation. “To live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Phil. 1:21), because on the other side of that gate stands the Savior who beat death and holds the keys (1 Cor. 15:55–57; Rev. 1:18).
Be encouraged. We still grieve, like Jesus did at a tomb, but we grieve with hope (1 Thess. 4:13).
In Christ, even our last breath is taken in a refuge.
Let’s pray.
