Do Your Plans Honor God? (Proverbs 14:22)

Listen Here:

Proverbs 14:22

Do they not go astray who devise evil?
Those who devise good meet steadfast love and faithfulness.

Day 100 of Praying Through Proverbs! Wow. I’m breaking the fourth wall here, but thank you so much for tuning in. I appreciate each and every one of you and genuinely hope these little devotionals have been encouraging to you. Here’s to 100 more.

When I tell you I love this verse – I mean it. And it hits even harder coming right after yesterday’s verse, Proverbs 16:9. That one reminded us to make our plans with humility and joy, knowing God is the one who establishes our steps.

Today’s verse takes us one step further – asking us to look closely at what we’re planning. Because our plans matter.

This verse is clear that it’s not just those who DO evil that go astray. It’s those who plan it that do too.

“Do they not go astray who devise evil?”
‘Do they not go astray who plan sinfully?’

It’s not just our actions that derail us – it’s our intentions.

We touched on this a bit yesterday when talking about whether our plans matter if God establishes our steps. Of course they do. They can lead us astray or to the love and faithfulness of God.

So let me ask:

Do your plans honor God?

It’s a question worth asking again.

Do your plans honor God?

Because the beautiful promise of this verse is that those who devise good – those whose plans are godly and good – meet steadfast love and faithfulness.

What a reward.
Steadfast love: that’s covenant, loyal, unshakable love.
Faithfulness: God’s rock-solid commitment to follow through.

And here’s the thing – this isn’t a transactional verse. It’s not “be good, get goodies.” It’s a reflection of the kind of relationship we get to walk in. When our plans are made with God – not just in view, but at the center – when they’re rooted in His character, we get to walk in the flow of His love and faithfulness. That’s not a reward we earn – it’s a reward we align with.

But we don’t get there by drawing up selfish, shady, or sin-stained plans.

So today’s a blueprint check.

  • What plans have I been making lately – do they honor God?

  • Are there areas where I’ve left Him out of the blueprint?

  • How would it look to invite Him into the architect’s chair?

Let’s ask the Lord to help us devise plans for our lives with Him not just in view but at the center, trusting that He will meet us there with His love and faithfulness.
