Integrity is a Guard (Proverbs 13:6)

Listen Here:

Proverbs 13:6

Righteousness guards him whose way is blameless,
but sin overthrows the wicked.

Yesterday, integrity was our guide. Today? It’s our guard. Same righteousness – different role.

‘Righteousness guards him whose way is blameless,
but sin overthrows the wicked.’

The Christian is secured from ruin. Why? Not because our ways are blameless, but because Christ’s ways were blameless. Because of our faith in Him, the Father sees us as He sees His Son – blameless and righteous. We are secured from ruin because of what Jesus has done and His righteousness.

But if a Christian is secured from ruin, the unrepentant sinner is secured for ruin. The second part of this verse says: ‘sin overthrows the wicked’. The unrepentant sinner’s own wickedness overthrows him and overtakes him – sin turns into a trap door, and he falls right through it. His sure end is destruction. His sure end is ruin.

So how do we respond and apply a verse like this?

First, let this verse become a shield in your prayer today – a reason to thank Jesus for standing guard over your soul, securing you from ruin.

And then let’s also think of one right now who may be dominated and controlled by their sin. Maybe their sin has overtaken them, they've become trapped by it, and they do not know this guide and guard that we do in Christ. And let’s pray for that person’s salvation.

Pray with me.
