The Life-or-Death Choice Before You (Proverbs 8:35–36)
Listen Here:
Proverbs 8:35-36
For whoever finds me finds life
and obtains favor from the Lord,
36 but he who fails to find me injures himself;
all who hate me love death.”
These final verses crown Wisdom’s great appeal in Proverbs 8 — a chapter where wisdom steps out of abstraction, puts on a voice, and pleads like a prophetess in the streets. And her plea is this:
“Find me and live. Ignore me and die.”
That’s the heart behind her message, and the ends could not be more drastic. That’s important for us because it heightens and amplifies the importance of what we do with wisdom.
And if you’ve been walking with us through this week, you’ve likely seen the golden thread — the fear of the Lord. Again and again, Scripture pushes us to answer the one question that echoes louder than all others: Who is God to you?
But now we arrive at the blazing center of the matter:
Wisdom is not just a concept — Wisdom is Christ.
He is not merely echoing her voice; He is her embodiment.
And listen to His words in John 5:24:
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”
Doesn’t it ring familiar? The same heartbeat. The same fork in the road.
To hear and believe in Jesus is not to adopt a religion — it is to step from the shadow of death into the sunlit land of the living. To ignore Him is not just a missed opportunity — it’s a chosen loyalty to the grave.
As Proverbs says: ‘All who hate me love death’.
Let that settle on you.
To shrug at Christ is not neutral ground — it’s a slow romance with the tomb.
So let me ask you:
Where in your life are you seeking wisdom apart from Jesus?
What would it mean today to reorient your choices around Christ as the source of life?
These verses today call out to us to choose Wisdom. To choose Christ. To choose life.
Let’s pray with that in mind.
