Give Freely (Proverbs 11:24-25)
Listen Here:
Proverbs 11:24-25
One gives freely, yet grows all the richer;
another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.
25 Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
and one who waters will himself be watered.
These verses build on what we talked about yesterday—the grace of generosity.
They lay out a simple truth: Those who give generously will be given more.
You ever noticed how the most generous people always seem to have enough? Like, they just keep pouring out, and yet somehow, they stay full? That’s not a coincidence—that’s a kingdom principle.
We often think of giving in terms of money, but the generosity in these verses goes far beyond that. Time, encouragement, love – these are also things we can give. Jesus said in Luke 22:26, “Let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves.” When you pour yourself out for others, when you serve - giving your time, your energy, love, encouragement, and finances - you aren’t left empty, rather you’re filled with something greater.
Paul echoes this in 2 Corinthians 9:
"whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully…God loves a cheerful giver.’
Those who give generously will be given more. You can’t out-give God.
Why? Because God is the greatest giver. He’s given us His Son Jesus. The ultimate gift. Think about that. God didn’t just give us something—He gave us someone. He gave us Himself. He took on flesh and bled and died for us. And because He gave His life, we can live in Him.
That right there is the grandest picture of giving. That’s our example, and our call. The Bible says in 1 John 3:16 ‘By this we know love, that he laid down (or gave) his life for us, and we ought to lay (or give) down our lives for the brothers.
So how can you give today and to whom can you give today?
What would it look like to reflect God’s generosity in your life?
It’s evident from these verses, and I’ve certainly experienced it in my own life, that the Lord fills up those who pour themselves out for Him. That is why one can give freely yet grow all the richer - it’s because the Lord, the Ultimate Gift Giver, often replenishes and restores tenfold what we give. Maybe that’s physically, maybe it’s spiritually, maybe it’s neither, but the Lord always provides.
God sees your generosity. And when you give, He is not just watching—He is replenishing. Maybe it’s in ways you expect, maybe in ways you never saw coming. But He is faithful.
Let’s pray.
